POLICE are hunting two doorstep conmen who stole thousands of pounds from an elderly couple.
The pair got into the house in Seaham, County Durham, by telling the 71-year-old woman there was a problem with her drains.
The woman let them in despite having suspicions, and when her husband returned home later, they searched the house and found their money gone.
Police believe an old, dark blue Transit or Sherpa-style van may have been in the area at the time.
One of the thieves was 6ft, in his late 30s, clean shaven and had dark brown hair. He wore a dark waist-length jacket and trousers.
His accomplice was shorter, thin, in his 30s and with collar-length hair. He wore a yellow anorak.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0191-586 2621 or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
