A PARISH council is opposing a caravan park's bid to replace some touring caravans with static caravans because it said it would harm the landscape in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Azerley and Winksley Parish Council wants an application by Winksley Banks Holiday Park, near Ripon, refused when area planners of Harrogate Borough Council meet on Tuesday.

The application to replace six touring caravans with static caravans is a revised scheme. The change involves planting a hedge on the northern, western and eastern boundaries of the site.

But the parish council said the offer to landscape did not change its reasons for objections to the first application.

It said: "It is not acceptable to the parish council that the landscape harm should continue until a screen is established. If the applicants think the screening makes all the difference, it should be established first and then it can be seen if it is sufficient."

Two other objections have also been submitted. They said the site was already developed to full capacity and access was via a single track road. They fear increased noise and said permanent occupation would be inappropriate.

Planning officer Linda Drake, recommending refusal, said using the field for static vans would look out of place.
