A dog day will be held at one of the region's largest new woods tomorrow. The Forestry Commission will stage a doggy day at Coatham Wood, at Long Newton near Stockton, between 1pm and 4pm.
The animals will be able to take part in a number of competitions, including agility tests, a best wag competition and a canine treasure hunt.
Cath Brason, Forestry Commission recreation ranger, said: "There are a lot of dog users who use the site, so we thought why not do something for them? It's the first event we've done like this and we're just hoping for sunshine."
The most recent tree planting was completed in the spring at the five-year-old, 500-acre wood.
More than 500,000 trees have been planted, some of which will be commercially harvested.
Dogs and their owners are welcome to turn up on the day to take part in events, including a sponsored woodland walk to raise funds for the Dogs Trust.
The event will take place near the wood car park, just of the A66 between Long Newton and Urlay Nook. The event is sponsored by The Northern Echo.
