A CURLING event for disabled and able-bodied people has been hailed a success.
More than 50 people, aged between eight and 80, took part in games at Coatham Memorial Hall, in Redcar.
Redcar and Cleveland's Disability Access Group, which organised the event, was delighted with the turnout.
Members now hope to make the sport a fortnightly occasion in the town.
Committee member, and event organiser, Tish McDonald said: "The event has been a great success and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
"Quite a few people came back for repeat games and found they had undiscovered talents.
"We are hoping to generate enough interest in the local area to start a league, or at least a social event, for able- bodied, disabled people and their carers, young and old, to get together and enjoy this new sport."
She said it was the first time the group had found a sport that could be recommended for both disabled and able-bodied people.
"Usually, one or the other has to sit on the sidelines while the other plays.
"But curling is something everyone can enjoy together. We had people in wheelchairs and on crutches joining in," she said.
The next event will be held between 1pm and 3pm on Friday, July 30, at Coatham Memorial Hall.
