DAVID Brown has shown he can measure up after winning a place in Slimming World's Man of the Year semi-finals.
The 43-year-old, from Brotton, near Saltburn, east Cleveland, was congratulated by actress Tina Hobley, who plays nurse Chrissie Williams in BBC's Holby City.
He shed 3st, dropping from 16st 10lb to 13st 10lb.
He was one of 43 UK semi-finalists competing for the title at Slimming World's headquarters in Somercotes, Derbyshire. Between them, the men had lost 273st.
Semi-finalist Mr Brown said: "I felt quite unsure about joining a slimming club at first, but as soon as I walked through the door, everyone made me feel so welcome.
"I now look forward to my weekly visits to the Guisborough group. We have a great laugh, spur each other on and get some great tips along the way.
"Losing 3st with Slimming World was reward enough, and meeting Tina is certainly the icing on the cake for me."
This year's Man of the Year title went to 40-year-old Phil Hayes, from Watford, who lost 11st 1lb.
