A SCHEME to attract recruits for health and social care careers has been launched.
Hambleton and Richmondshire Primary Care Trust has started the Care Work Scheme to help tackle a staff shortage.
Trainees are guaranteed a job at the end of the course, and have the opportunity to gain a qualification.
Kirsty Kitching, business development manager for the trust, said: "We see the scheme as supporting the whole network of health and social care in Hambleton and Richmondshire.
"It has sparked off interest amongst many organisations that are involved in care locally, regionally and nationally."
Trainees will study towards a NVQ level three in health and social care and receive on-the-job training.
Mentors will provide support and students will be paid for the twenty-month course.
Once qualified, the students can pursue careers in areas including nursing, occupational therapy and social work.
