AWARDS in memory of a soldier killed in Iraq last year have been presented.
Lance Corporal Ben Hyde, a former pupil of Northallerton College, was one of six military police officers killed last summer while training local officers.
The Ben Hyde Awards were established last year by the college for the boy and girl who showed the most commitment to their sport. The winners this year were Anna Kirby and Chris Dixon.
Alistair Macrae, head of PE, said Anna, 17, had made a strong contribution to sport at the college over the past three years, mainly in cross-country and middle distance running.
He said Chris, also 17, had excelled in rugby, helping to found then captain the Northallerton under-18 rugby team. Chris also plays football and squash and takes part in mountain biking.
