A NEW place of worship is to be created in Darlington after councillors gave their backing yesterday.
Proposals were submitted to Darlington Borough Council's planning committee for the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses to be demolished and replaced.
Committee members approved the development in Salters Lane South.
The building will be a brick structure, with a smaller floor area than the original, and a concrete tiled roof.
Access would continue to be from Salters Lane South, with 11 car parking spaces at the site.
However, Councillor David Lyonette said there were often traffic problems in the area.
He said: "We have missed an opportunity to increase the car parking."
