THE most wanted man in Britain was still on the run last night as police pledged: "We will find him."
More possible sightings have been made of Mark Richard Hobson, the man police want to speak to in connection with the murderous killing spree in North Yorkshire.
But despite raids by armed police on at least two houses in Selby early yesterday, he is still at large and officers across the country have been put on alert.
Police have warned anyone who sees Hobson not to approach him but contact them immediately.
Hobson is being hunted following the killing of his girlfriend, Claire Sanderson, 27, and her twin sister, Diane, in Camblesforth, near Selby.
Their bodies were found hours before the stabbed and beaten bodies of frail pensioners James and Joan Britton were found at their home 25 miles away, at Strensall, York.
Last night, Channel 4 news reported that Claire had been missing from work for about two weeks.
Her sister, concerned over her whereabouts, visited the flat she shared with Hobson on Saturday night. They were both found murdered there the following morning, but Claire could have been dead for some time before Diane's visit, said Channel 4.
Sightings of Hobson and similarity of injuries have led police to believe the double killings are linked.
CCTV footage from petrol stations and city and town centres have been seized by detectives.
Police do not believe Hobson has fled abroad as his passport is "accounted for". There is speculation he may be living rough after reports that he was seen reading a SAS survival handbook.
The man leading the hunt, Detective Superintendent Javad Ali, said: "Make no mistake, we will trace him."
The distraught family of the Brittons yesterday broke their silence and made a plea for the public to help the hunt.
One of their daughters, Catherine Wilkins, from Durham, said: "We are very shocked and distressed about the sudden and unexplained deaths of our mum and dad Joan and Jim
"If anyone has any information which can help the police, we would urge them to come forward."
Police revealed that weapons had been found at both the Strensall and Camblesforth scenes.
Anyone who sees Hobson or knows his whereabouts is asked to call police on (01609) 783131 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
