THE Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Roderick Francis, gave his support to an event for multiple sclerosis sufferers and carers.
Health and social care professionals set up their stalls at the town's Dolphin Centre to offer advice and provide information on the array of services available.
The event was organised by Darlington's MS Steering Group and attended by members of Darlington Primary Care Trust, the MS Society, Home Care occupational therapists, the Dietetics Service, St Teresa's Hospice, Carefree Mobility, GEM (Getting Everyone Motivated), Disability Options and the Patient Advice and Liaison Service.
The Darlington trust's nurse development facilitator, Win Suggett, said the aim of the event was to promote the services available, including 24-hour district nursing, to those affected by the disease.
"We are trying to promote independent living and, most importantly, receive feedback from the public on how services can be improved," he said.
Information about MS can be obtained by telephoning Darlington Carers' Support Services on (01325) 357533 or the local branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society on (01325) 720059.
