BLUE cheesemaker Shepherds Purse has landed a six-figure contract to supply an award-winning product to Waitrose.
The company in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, will see its Yorkshire Blue cheese stocked in all 145 outlets of the fresh food retail arm of the John Lewis Partnership.
John Kerwin, director of Shepherds Purse, said: "We are delighted to be on board with Waitrose food stores, the perfect platform for our premium quality, hand-made speciality cheeses and testament to the increasing demand for our products nationally.
"We are sure that Yorkshire Blue will be a real hit with Waitrose shoppers."
Waitrose has benefited from consolidation within the supermarket sector with Morrisons buying the Safeway group of stores. In May, it bought 19 of 52 supermarkets Morrisons had to sell before it was allowed to buy Safeway.
