AN innovative electric vehicle designed and manufactured by a North-East company is helping to streamline production of ready made food dishes at Geest's Milton Keynes factory.
The 2,000kg capacity Easyloader vehicle produced by SEV Group, of Gateshead, is being used to transport bulk containers of food from the preparation area to the cooking area, a task previously performed using fork-lift trucks.
The vehicle has been adapted from SEV's Easyloader range. It is fitted with side and rear loading ramps, with its low floor height dispensing with the need for a tail lift operation. This removes the associated health and safety issues as well as speeding up distribution operations.
The Easyloader is powered from a 30 cell, 60 volt battery pack controlled by a SEV Powerpak transistor control system. It has hydraulic braking and power assisted steering.
The SEV Group employs 165 personnel at its manufacturing headquarters at Gateshead. It also has service centres in Gateshead, Manchester, Sheffield and London.
