CLASSMATES of a bright schoolboy who collapsed and died during an exam paid tribute to his life in an emotional ceremony last week.
Leslie Pilkington collapsed during a SATs maths test at Shield Row Primary School, Stanley, in May, and died shortly afterwards.
Pals from Year Six released balloons in his memory, each bearing a personal message. Among them was one with Leslie's last achievement attached.
Head Eric Patterson said: "Leslie gained a bronze certificate in our personal development awards, but died before he could be told."
The first balloons were released by Leslie's mother, Amanda Law, who was joined by his brother Jack, seven, and sister Perri, six.
Ms Law said: " It was beautiful. The number of people that turned out was fabulous."
Leslie, of Spen Street, Stanley, would have been taking part in the Year Six final assembly, as the class bid farewell to the school and moved on to secondary education.
Mr Patterson, said it was a tradition for Year Six pupils to stage a final assembly where they recalled moments from their time at the school and where they could say their goodbyes.
An inquest into Leslie's death is due to be held on August 25.
