A NORTH-EAST MP yesterday pledged to support a growing campaign to end age discrimination against disabled people over 65.
John Cummings, who represents Easington, County Durham, is one of more than 150 MPs who have so far signed an Early Day Motion calling for an end to the rules that mean people who become disabled at or after the age of 65 cannot get help with mobility or low-level care needs.
Mr Cummings said: "I hope we can help bring an end to the outdated idea that elderly people are passive, non-contributing members of our society."
He added: "The Mobilise campaign estimates that up to 2000 disabled pensioners in Easington are being denied the help the need to remain mobile and would benefit from this unfair age bar being scrapped."
