A TOWN park will be transformed next week with an outdoor show.

Colourscape will take its show, The Tube, to Applegarth, Northallerton, on Wednesday.

The free one-day event will feature large environmental sculptures and musicians.

"This is a great way for all ages to experience a new kind of music performance with a science angle and to spend some time in the town," said Councillor Neville Huxtable.

"With about three performances in each hour, the show can be performed to up to 500 people in a four-hour performance day."

The Tube is described as a powerful and fun way to introduce contemporary music to a large public.

The tube is 50ft long and eight feet in diameter and inflated by large blowers.

Because the tube is transparent, people passing by can see the reactions of the audience inside.

The public go into the sound tunnel to hear performances of flute and trombone music, which is processed live by computers.

Loudspeakers make the music spiral and bounce around inside to give the feeling of being inside a huge flute.
