A NINE-YEAR-OLD soprano has won an award for his contributions to the community.
Ryan Johnson received the Child in the Community award at an end-of-term assembly at Green Gates Primary School, in Redcar.
He was chosen by a panel of teachers in recognition of his community efforts, including his performances in the St Cuthbert's Church choir at Kirkleatham Village.
Ryan was the first winner of the scheme, set up by Top Lakes Residents' Association, which is disbanding this year. The group has enough money for the Child in the Community Award to be awarded for ten years, and for a tree to be planted in the school field.
The trophy will be kept in school, with Ryan taking a replica home.
Head Henry Skene, who chaired the judges' panel, said: "We're delighted to make the award to Ryan for the work he's put into the community and his dedication to being a member of the church choir."
