YOUNGSTERS have been flocking to a Newton Aycliffe church to take part in a summer festival.
Momentum, organised by the town's Christian Life Centre, is a series of free workshops, games and activities for 11 to 19-year-olds which has been running since Wednesday.
Julian Clark, from the centre, said: "The idea is to give young people something to do and introduce them to the kind of stuff that we do at the church.
"It's not just about church, but it is about having fun and having a place to go so they can express themselves."
During the day the youngsters could choose to take part in a variety of workshops, including drama, dance, sports, a girls' pamper zone and a games zone.
Evenings were devoted to activities and concerts, which included local bands.
The festival finishes today with events at the church, in Woodham, between 10am and 3pm.
Church leaders estimate about 1,000 young people, mostly from Newton Aycliffe and Ferryhill, have attended the festival.
Mr Clark said: "They've been having a great time and that's the emphasis from our point of view, to let them know we think they're special."
The church will be hosting a Y Kids Festival for children aged seven to 11, at Hope House Centre, Newton Aycliffe, from Thursday.
