A VOLUNTARY service is serving up pensions advice as well as hot meals to elderl people.
The Women's Royal Voluntary Service has been recruited by the Government's pension Service to distribute leaflets on pension credit with their meals on wheels.
Karen Pettett, Middlesbrough Pension Service partnership liaison manager, said: "We hold a number of advice surgeries across Teesside, but are always looking for new ways to let people know that they may be entitled to extra cash.
"We are delighted to be working in partnership with WRVS who are helping us put more money into pensioners' pockets every week with the help of the new pension credit, which is just a phone call away."
Pensioners in the Teesside town are picking up an average of £38 a week in pension credit.
Maria Rudd, WRVS food services support manager for Middlesbrough said: "Delivering freshly prepared frozen quality meals to our customers is just a small part of what we do.
"WRVS is always keen to work with organisations and groups that help older and housebound people have a better quality of life. We hope that this venture will prove to be successful."
