Brave police officers in Stockton have received commendations for their work.

PC Paul Murphy picked up his certificate for performing a stop and search check on a man acting suspiciously outside the swimming baths in the Stockton.

His work led to the arrest of a paedophile when his camera was inspected and further investigations at the man's home uncovered stored images on a computer.

A protracted and complicated investigation into motor vehicle thefts led to PC Tommy Maughan and crime analyst Lisa Lyons being rewarded for their hard work and endeavour.

Two officers were praised for preventing suicide attempts. PC John Sprosan held on to a man who was attempting to jump from a bridge over the A66 and saved his life.

And PC Ken Harland, with the assistance of a colleague, supported the weight of woman who tried to hang herself in public toilets near the police station, while she was cut free and them administered first aid.

An initiative launched in Ingleby Barwick and copied across the country led to PC Kevin Stockley picking up his award. He gained funding from a local computer firm to pay for a small camera and microphone to fit to his cycle, which has helped reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.

Frontline officer PC Colin Purcell received his certificate for more than 30 years of operational service.
