THE world of medieval technology was among subjects featured in a weekend science exhibition.
Science Summer, held at the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery, in Durham, comprised touring items provided by Science Projects Ltd.
Visitors could build a castle wall then attack it with a small siege engine, hurling rocks to try to knock it down.
Children also had a go on a rocking horse to see how difficult riding was before the invention of stirrups.
Dennis Hardingham, the gallery's exhibitions officer, said some discoveries were so fundamental today that people hardly realised they were once major technological advances.
Science Summer runs until September 5.
