RAIN and clouds failed to prevent families enjoying a day out at Saltburn's annual Swashbuckle event yesterday.
Activities took place despite the weather, and were enjoyed by hundreds of adults and children.
There were sand sculptures, Punch and Judy, stilt walkers, arts and crafts, circus skills, tai-chi and the ongoing Time and Tide exhibition on Saltburn pier, featuring views of the country's remaining 54 pleasure piers.
Youngsters took up the challenge to come dressed as pirates and support the Make a Child Smile campaign.
Pupils from Wheatlands Primary, John Emmerson Batty and West Redcar Community School, all in Redcar, formed a ten-piece band with a mix of percussion, trumpets, trombones, saxophone and flute to provide Brazilian music on the day, thanks to a project organised by the Creative Partnership Tees Valley.
Jane Cuthbert, who was involved in the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council-run event, said: "It was a fantastic day. Hundreds of people came along despite the rain, but we only had a couple of showers."
