A DENTIST will take on her latest challenge next month with a charity walk in China.
Jo Daly, 48, will walk an 80km section of the Great Wall of China over five days to raise money for Dentaid, a charity that raises funds for dental care in developing countries.
Mrs Daly, who is a dentist at Springs Dental Practice, in Darlington, has undertaken other challenges to raise money for the charity.
She said: "Two years ago I cycled 250 miles across the Grand Canyon and I have been to Romania and Nepal.
"I am in training for the walk -lots of days at Hamsterley Forest and the Lake District, but it is going to be hot in China, around 30 degrees, with lots of up and down hills.
"Dentaid helps developing countries. For example, in Uganda, a witch doctor might dig out a sick baby's teeth with a rusty old bike spoke because they believe the teeth are full of evil spirits. The baby can then die from infection, so Dentaid works to provide education.
"Alternatively, some countries do have dentists but they are in very short supply; one to a million people, and they have old equipment, so Dentaid provides new equipment."
