WHEN the boss of a regional servicing division lost his job, he responded by starting a successful business.
John Downey helps companies to manage and manipulate data to increase their profits.
After leading the regional servicing division of a North-East office equipment supplier for 14 years, he found himself redundant at the age of 47. Mr Downey then decided to start his business, Treboryen Database Design.
He said: "I used to manage the entire servicing network and had to produce service, staff and customer reports.
"The templates between me and the data were never quite right and I always thought that with a bit more know-ledge, I could have improved the way the system worked.
"That is when I came up with the idea of helping businesses produce tailor-made databases to help them manage their data to get more from it."
Two years and several college courses later, and with the help of Easington Action Team for Jobs, Mr Downey started his business.
