TEENAGERS in Teesdale and Wear Valley have been given passes that allow them free access to a sports centre.
The Buzzin' Leisure Card Scheme gives 13 to 18-year old children free access to Teesdale Sports Centre, in Barnard Castle.
The scheme has been funded by a £50,000 grant from the Single Regeneration Budget.
The passes also allow access to the Jades Lifestyle Fitness Suite, fitness classes, swimming and sauna and is valid from Monday to Sunday at various times.
Teesdale District Council's leisure manager, Paul Branch, said: "This age group is one that tends to be moved into a sedentary lifestyle.
"This card is trying to get them more involved in physical activities."
The scheme was put together by young people involved in the Durham Health Initiative Action Research project, in partnership with Teesdale Leisure Services, Investing in Children and the Durham Dales Primary Care Trust. It will operate until the funding runs out.
The cards were given out at local schools.
Anyone who did not receive one can collect a card from Teesdale Sports Centre, or call (01833) 690400 for details.
