A vehicle-sharing scheme is looking for volunteers to put it on the road to success.
The scheme, funded by the Countryside Agency and Durham County Council, will eventually lead to a vehicle being made available by the county council to community groups in need of transport.
Drivers will need accredited Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (Midas) training to use the vehicle.
Midas training is available now, funded by a partnership of the county council, the Rural Transport Partnerships (RTP) of east and west Durham and the Durham Dales Healthy Living Partnership.
Funding will be provided to community groups in the RTP areas to do the training.
Qualified assessors will work with the volunteers who will be required to enrol on the county council's vehicle sharing scheme voluntary driver databse. The scheme aims to increase the number of drivers available for community and charitable groups.
Volunteers interested in Midas training should contact county council vehicle sharing officer Lilian Bleanch on 0191-383 4875.
