BUILDING sites operated in the region by social housing contractor Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) are six times safer than the national average, according to data.
Figures released by the National House Builders Council (NHBC) show that FHM's site management has benefited from strong health and safety procedures.
Sam Simpkins, the construction director for the Sunderland company, said: "It means that our sites are now four times safer than they were last year, and even then our health and safety record was first-class."
FHM takes part in a national health and safety monitoring scheme run by the NHBC, which involves monthly visits from safety inspectors.
