RON GREENER, one of Darlington Football Club's greatest ever players, has been honoured by the Quakers.
The Presidential Lounge at the club's £20m Neasham Road stadium was renamed the Ron Greener Suite at a ceremony last night.
The event recognised the impact the 70-year-old Easington-born defender made on the club, during a 12-year period which saw him play more than 500 games.
One of the highlights of his career, and the club's history, was the 1958 FA Cup campaign, which saw Darlington beat Chelsea 4-1.
Last night's ceremony took place before the club's pre-season friendly match against Leeds United.
Mr Greener said: "When Andrew Battison, the chief executive, suggested the idea to me, I was stunned and very proud.
"I hope the club, the supporters and the players get the success for which they are all deserving."
