A LOCAL history society has published a book about a railway which passes through a north Durham community.
Lines from Leadgate, by Bill Stockdale, charts the account of the railway from its horse-drawn origins in 1833 to the diesel-hauled last train to Consett in 1984.
Mr Stockdale said: "This booklet has been a labour of love. Some of my earliest memories are of dropping off to sleep to the sound of Consett Iron Company engines puffing and slipping and LNER trains thundering through the village."
The booklet is available at £2.20 from Homans Newsagents, Watling Street, Leadgate, from society members or by post at £2.50 from Bill Stockdale, 38 Watling Street, Leadgate, DH8 6EE.
