A BID to build two homes in a village has brought protests from the parish council.

Skelton-on-Ure Parish Council has lodged an objection to the scheme behind 21-26 Crow Garth, saying the new homes would increase traffic next to the village playing field.

Members are also concerned about the right of way across land to the site and fear house values would be affected. In addition, they point out there is no provision for additional parking.

Four invidiual letters of objection have also been tabled covering issues including extra traffic, loss of privacy and inadequate access.

In June 1997, the Newby Hall Estate requested a survey was carried out in Skelton because the parish council and estate believed there was a need for affordable homes. Following this, planning officers identified four potential sites.

Planning officer Linda Drake, who is recommending approval of the application from Harrogate Borough Council, says the site is owned by the council.

Mrs Drake said she believed the homes could be built without having a detrimental impact on residential amenities of neighbours or the area's character.

She said no other plans for affordable homes were under consideration in the area and the outline application would help meet requirements.

The matter will be considered by councillors on Tuesday.
