A Darlington soldier is returning home to give advice about life in the Army.
Trooper James Mitchell, 18, will be spending time at the Darlington Army Careers Office at 148 Northgate, from Monday to Friday next week, to talk about training, travel and sporting opportunities.
James has completed his initial training and has qualified to serve in the Light Dragoons based in Norfolk.
He completed a 12-month apprenticeship at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and then moved to the more specialised area of his training in Dorset.
There he learned radio signalling, and driving and maintaining Armoured Fighting Vehicles and is now a qualified driver of a Scimitar tank.
He said: "Passing basic training was one of the biggest achievements to date. It made me feel so proud to know that I was now a soldier in the British Army."
James was able to pursue his interest in football and has also competed in many rifle shooting competitions.
The senior recruiter at Darlington, Warrant Officer Mick O'Reilly, said: "We are delighted that James is here to assist us with our recruitment campaign. He is an excellent example of how young people can quickly become successful soldiers and we are confident that he will be able to answer any questions that potential young recruits may have about an Army career."
