Passengers watched in horror as a man was stabbed on a railway platform.
Commuters were left shocked as a gang of teenagers attacked the man, at Gateshead Stadium Metro station at 5.35pm on Wednesday, on the Newcastle-bound platform.
The 35-year-old victim was taken to Gateshead's Queen Elizabeth Hospital with a stab wound to his left leg, which was described as not life-threatening.
A Northumbria Police spokes-man said a 19-year-old man and two girls, both aged 17, were arrested on suspicion of assault.
The man and one girl were still being detained, but the second girl has been released on police bail.
A Nexus spokesman said: "This is a dreadful incident and our first thoughts go to the man's family and friends."
