A NORTH-EAST football legend has agreed to take part in a golf tournament to raise money for one of the region's best-known charities.
Former Scotland, Newcastle United and Sunderland skipper Bobby Moncur is one of the celebrities who have agreed to play in a mayor's golf tournament, which will be held at Sedgefield's Knotty Ash Golf Centre on Thursday, September 9.
Councillor Marie Predki, Mayor of Sedgefield Borough Council in County Durham, has chosen the Butterwick Hospice, in Bishop Auckland, as her chosen charity this year.
The golf tournament is usually a big money-spinner for the charity and this year promises to be no different.
Moncur, the last Newcastle skipper to lift a trophy when the club won the Inter Cities Fairs Cup in 1969, will be part of the team representing construction equipment company HM Plant.
Teams of four will take part in the 18-hole Stableford competition. As well as the team competition, there will be trophies at selected holes and putting and target golf competitions.
Team entry is £175, which includes a four-course tournament presentation dinner at Hardwick Hall, near Sedgefield.
For more information, or to enter a team, contact Beryl Anderson at Sedgefield Borough Council on (01388) 816166.
