The inaugural Cumwhinton British Eventing Horse Trials near Carlisle saw a trio of winners from the Zetland Pony Club, all of whom were also pupils of Barnard Castle School.
Nicky Smith of Barbard Castle rode Sue Russell's Heatherdene Painted Lady to win an intro section, Tanya Buckingham of Scargill and her own Dovecote Young Jack took the honours in a pre-novice section and Chloe Straker of Caldwell on her own Walthwaite Firecracker finished first in the junior regional novice section.
All three completed on their dressage scores with winner's sashes awarded in addition to the generously sponsored prizes. Two further Zetland owner-rider members Clare Pearson on Nickel Challenger and Charlotte Flood with Young Diddicoy were placed third and fifth respectively.
The cross county course was beautifully presented with carved sheep, pigs, life-like alpacas and a crocodile in the water complex adding interest for spectators and competitors
