POLICE, fire and ambulance services have teamed up with council staff to improve safety at public events.
They have formed the Wear Valley Safety Advisory Group to help groups and individuals organise carnivals, fetes and other events by making recommendations about safety measures.
Max Coleby, acting director of community services for Wear Valley District Council, said: "Within Wear Valley, organisers have a very good record of conducting events in a safe and responsible manner.
"There is no doubt, however, that the advent of the safety advisory group has led to an increased awareness on the part of organisers as to their responsibilities and their duty of care to people who attend the events."
