YOUNG people have taken part in an event to promote the benefits of sport.
A day of football, cricket, netball and basketball culminated with the running of a Magic Mile at Maiden Castle Sports Centre, in Durham, at the weekend. It was organised by County Durham Youth Engagement Service (Yes) to give young people the opportunity to try sports.
Co-ordinator of Social Inclusion Programme manager Brian Kirkup said: "This event is about positively engaging young people in sports and having fun.
"It is about getting young people to participate in doing something physical.
"We wanted them to take part and enjoy themselves."
Organisers hope the event will help to bring sporting opportunities to youngsters and that participants will have picked up skills they can use in their own time.
