FOOTBALLER Paul Gascoigne was at the centre of a health scare at the weekend after he was taken to hospital before kick-off at a match.
Gascoigne, 37, was due to be guest of honour at St James' Park at Saturday's game between two of his former clubs, Newcastle United and Glasgow Rangers, when he began complaining of stomach pains.
The former England midfielder was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he was treated and discharged.
Boston United's new player-coach returned to Newcastle's ground on Sunday ahead of a pre-season friendly and was given a warm reception from supporters.
Boston manager Steve Evans said: "Paul's hospital visit is precautionary and he will play in our friendly at Stevenage on Monday.
"He is in top-class condition and we are delighted to have him at Boston United.
"I have spoken to him and he is in fine fettle. As always with Gazza, these things are blown up a bit out of proportion."
The scare came at the end of a week in which Gazza said he was about to become an Internet agony uncle.
A recovering alcoholic, he plans to offer online advice and counselling to others trying to beat the bottle.
He is being given training in counselling by friend John McKeown, a psychotherapist.
