FIRST-time buyers unable to get their foot on the property ladder are being offered the home of their dreams for only £1,000 - but, predictably, there is a catch.
For £1,000 will buy them one of 250 raffle tickets that could win a lovingly-restored three-bedroomed house, in York.
Owner Mick Waddington came up with the novel way of putting his house on the market to try to help young would-be buyers who have been left behind by increasing property prices.
"I want a young couple to have the benefit of it," said Mr Waddington, 54, who has lived in the house, in Penyghent Avenue, Burnholme, for three years.
"They can move in here and all they need to do is put the furniture down. All the young people I have suggested it to have been very positive."
The 1950s property has two double bedrooms and an annex with another en-suite bedroom. There is also a new kitchen, a 20ft lounge and conservatory at the back, with fully-fitted carpets throughout.
The property has a garden at the back and off-street parking and a gravel area to the front.
Anyone interested in trying their luck is invited to visit the house to see if it suits their needs.
The only conditions attached to raffle entry are that participants must be under the age of 30 and must not own other property.
There is a limit of one ticket per person, although couples may purchase two between them.
"They have to want it as a home," said Mr Waddington.
All money will be held by a solicitor until the draw is completed.
Anyone who is interested in taking part in the raffle, or would like more information, is asked to contact Mr Waddington on 07734 152431.
