VILLAGERS enjoyed the delights of a local nature reserve during an open day at the weekend.
People in Middleton St George, near Darlington, were invited to The Whinnies nature reserve for an afternoon of fun organised by Darlington Borough Council's countryside team.
The event on Saturday included nature trails and children's workshops with local artist Liz Million.
There was also the chance to view Mongolian-style tents, known as eco-yurts, made from local products.
Susie Rutherford, the authority's countryside events officer, said: "The idea really is just to let people know that there is a nature reserve literally on their doorstep.
"The Whinnies is already well-used, but we want as many people as possible to enjoy it."
