WHEN Doreen Constantine was approaching her 60th birthday, she decided she did not want to celebrate in the usual way.
Instead of being inundated with treats and presents, she wanted to help cancer patients at her local hospital.
So she asked family and friends to make donations to the Mowbray Suite at her local hospital, the Friarage, in Northallerton.
The suite is £1,000 better off, following a presentation to Sister Susan Whitehead.
Mrs Constantine, from Deighton, said: "I would like to thank my thoughtful family and friends for making my birthday wish come true.
"I really wanted to help a local good cause which benefits everyone, as we may all need to use the NHS at some time."
