POLICE have appealed for information after two householders both returned from holiday to discover paint stripper had been thrown over the PVC fittings of their homes.
John McKeown and his neigbour, Jacqueline Mallaburn, said the vandals had caused thousands of pounds of damage to the window frames and doors in the attack in High Ridge, Blackhill, Consett.
The attacks are believed to have happened on Sunday, July 18, or Monday, July 19.
Mrs Mallaburn said: "I was in shock that somebody could stoop that low to do this to us. We are a quiet family who keep to ourselves.
"It is worrying that there are people who are capable of doing this."
Mr McKeown said: "It is scraping the barrel. It is just evil. We are appealing for anyone who can help to come forward.
"Someone may have heard someone bragging about it in one of the locals.
"We want the culprits brought to justice."
A police spokesman said: "Over the last few weeks there have been a number of incidents in High Ridge, Blackhill, Consett, which we believe are connected.
"We are doing all we can to put a stop to this and would appeal for anyone with information which might help police inquiries to get in touch."
Anyone who has information is asked to contact police on (01207) 504204.
