A MAN has made his first appearance at crown court in connection with the alleged murder of a pensioner in a pub.
Fred Fowler, 72, was killed and 19-year-old Michael Nixon was injured when a gunman opened fire at the Tap and Barrel pub in Salem Street, Hendon, Sunderland, on July 18.
Robert Fox, 36, of Rotherham Road, Sunderland, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court charged with murder and firearms offences. He may face further charges relating to Mr Nixon's injuries.
Mr Fox also faces a separate charge of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life dating from March 10.
The case will go before the court on October 8 for a plea and directions hearing and Mr Fox was remanded in custody.
