A DARLINGTON information technology (IT) company has launched a service that allows users to easily access and modify computer documents from anywhere in the world.
IT services provider Virage Limited has set up an Internet-based Document Management System (DMS).
The service enables computer users to perform tasks that were once only available to organisations that had installed expensive local and wide area networks.
Subscribers to DMS are able to access, view and edit documents online from anywhere, at any time, on any computer linked to the Internet.
Managing director Sean Connolly said: "Most large organisations use devices called networks to link computers together and so enable users to share access to files and documents.
"These are relatively expensive to install and maintain and are usually beyond the reach of small businesses.
"Now, thanks to DMS, anyone can access their files and documents via the Internet at any time and from wherever they may be in the world."
Mr Connolly created DMS to allow users to store an unlimited number of documents in a system that is totally secure.
He said the system supports all commonly used document formats, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Flash and image formats including JPEG, GIF and BMP.
DMS can be accessed by visiting www.file-manager.co.uk. For more information log on to www.virage.biz, or call Virage on 0845 1300 822.
