A PROTEST from a parish council over plans to build two homes in a Ripon village has been overruled by planners.
Skelton-on-Ure Parish Council objected to the plans over fears about increased traffic next to a playing field and lack of extra parking. Four individual protests were also submitted.
But members of an area planning committee of Harrogate Borough Council voted to approve the scheme and approved outline permission.
The homes will be built behind 21-26 Crow Garth.
A report to the committee said that in June 1997 the Newby Hall Estate requested that a survey be carried out in Skelton because the parish council and estate believed there was a need for affordable homes.
Following this, planning officers identified four potential sites.
Planning officer Linda Drake, who recommended approval, said the site was owned by the council.
The affordable homes will be for rent or low cost ownership. A pair of semi-detached houses will be developed by a housing association.
