CLEVELAND Show held unaffiliated show jumping for the first time this year and it proved popular, with a spacious ring, super going and £20 to the winner of each class. It is expected to attract even more competitors next year.
On her own Mr Smith, Ormesby's Joanne Hayes, 19, rode the only clear round in the ten-strong novice horse class to win comfortably from Sharon Henderson of Egglescliffe on Sam Rocket. Third place went to Guisborough's Vicky Wilson on Carly.
The intermediate horse class attracted 14 entries, with five going through to the jump-off. Farodale and Leanne Asprey jumped two lovely clear rounds to clinch first prize.
This super horse, who hunts with the Sinnington, then went on to take second place in the open horse class, won by Staintondale's Sadie Osbourne, 18, on her coloured horse Buzz.
The novice pony class attracted 13 entries. Drawn last in the seven-strong jump-off, Emily Armstrong of Bishop Auckland went clear in 29.75sec on Penelope to pip Beth Lack on Sparkle, who recorded 33.28.
An entry of 18 ponies contested the intermediate pony class, with 12 going into the jump-off. Yarm's Devon Henderson on Shamus (31.75) pipped Annabel Barker of Thornton le Moor on Pembrook (33.72), with young Holly Rogers third with Bluey.
Amy Osbourne, 16, of Staintondale, who had a fall in the novice horse class, made a remarkable recovery to ride a superb winning clear round in the jump-off of the open pony class on Cottonwood Kid. She won by more than five seconds from Annabel Barker on Pembrook.
