Adam Boyd is attracting interest, with North-East rivals Sunderland and Newcastle casting an eye over the striker at the weekend.

Boyd carried on his goalscoring form of last season, with a coolly-taken penalty to level the game with Bradford on Saturday, before Hugh Robertson's winner.

The home-grown striker is one of the Coca-Cola League's hottest properties and was watched by representatives from the Stadium of Light, St James' Park and Liverpool at Victoria Park during Saturday's Coca Cola League One opener.

Newcastle assistant boss John Carver was at Victoria Park and Boyd didn't disappoint as he led the Bradford defence a merry dance.

And, after his 13th goal in just 11 league games helped turn the game, Boyd admitted the result may make any lingering doubters realise his side are aiming to go one better than last time out.

"We have carried things on from last season and showed plenty of character and spirit again,'' he said. "We all work extremely hard and we were never worried."
