A Darlington woman's autobiography has raised £240 for a homeless charity.

Bedpans and Britches, by Betty Shaw, tells of her time working in the Land Army in the 1940s and as a nurse in Cardiff.

It went on sale in February in aid of the Nightstop charity, based at the Grange Road Baptist Church, in Darlington.

Mrs Shaw said the book was written in memory of her daughter, Sue Woollhouse, who was co-ordinator of Nightstop until her death last year.

"Sue always encouraged me to write it and the book is in memory of her," she said.

"She was very dedicated to Nightstop and I am glad to be able to support something that was so important to her."

Mrs Shaw belongs to the Bennet House Writers' Group and was supported with the project by other members.
