POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a boxing club in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, was set alight by suspected arsonists.
The building was badly damaged in the blaze, which happened in the early hours of Sunday after the club was broken into.
Four fire crews were called, with two coming from Grangetown station and one each from Middlesbrough and Redcar.
Firefighters used the hydraulic platform, two hoses, breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras to tackle the fire.
The bar area of the KO Boxing club was severely damaged and the rest of the building suffered smoke damage.
Detectives are appealing for information from anyone who was in the Bolckow Road area between 1am and 2.30am, particularly taxi drivers or people making their way home after a night out who could have noticed something suspicious.
Witnesses are asked to call Detective Constable Danny Oldroyd on (01642) 302626.
