LIFELONG Salvation Army stalwarts Bill and Elsie Piercy have celebrated their diamond wedding at Norton-on-Derwent.
The couple, both born and bred in Norton, have lived in the same house in Dean Road, for more than half a century.
Mr Piercy, 85, spent most of his working life on farms, but for 15 years was caretaker at Norton cemetery - a job now held by his son, Malcolm.
He started his career with the Army, attending its Sunday School and then joined the band, playing the euphonium for many years and was a bandsman for six decades.
Mr Piercy was also secretary of Norton Corps for 29 years.
It was through the Army that the couple met.
Mrs Piercy, 83, was treasurer of the Home League for 33 years.
