CREATIVE youngsters have been given only two weeks to write, rehearse and perform a summer show.
The 60 children from the Stockton area must also design costumes, create a set and choreograph dance routines.
They are taking part in this year's summer school for seven to 16-year-olds at Stockton's Arc Theatre.
Guided by Emma Green and Mik Errington, the children turned up to the first day yesterday.
They will work on themes of identity and inclusion and the production will be set in a run down urban playground.
A story has already been developed about a girl who causes chaos when she arrives in a neighbourhood where there are three distinct gangs, a skateboard group and an organised play group all competing for use of the playground.
"Self discovery is the journey these children will be exploring," said a spokesman for The Arc.
"We're looking forward to the their performance, which I'm sure will be excellent."
The show will be held at the theatre on Friday, August 20, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £3 (£1.50 concessions). Call the box office on (01642) 525199.
