A MAN who saved a child's life in a dramatic river rescue has died.
Peter Cannon, of Aysgarth Close, Kendal, Cumbria, died after he plunged into the River Kent where a child was being swept away.
The 28-year-old fought the current to carry the youngster to shore, but was then unable to drag himself from the deep water at Sandy Bottoms, Kendal, and slipped below the surface.
Medics who pulled Mr Cannon's unconscious body ashore gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before taking him to Furness General Hospital, in Barrow.
He died on Monday night.
